systems and administration

Any business needs superior systems in order to be excellent.  The systems need only be simple, but you need them.  What happens when a key staff member is ill, or has to go away for an extended time?  Do you know what that person does in your business and how and when he/she does it? What happens when you take a holiday?  Are you confident everything is being done properly?

Systems make everything easier.  Once you have systems in place for important tasks such as ordering and receiving, payroll, administration, food safety and so on, these tasks become less of a drain on your resources.

If you are considering selling your business, the more systems you have in place, the more the new owner knows about your business and the more attractive buying proposition will it be.  Also, good systems and thorough administration guarantee an easy transition for the new owner.

The more your vital systems are documented, the more freedom your staff has in other areas for creativity and spontaneity. When systems are implemented and communication is easy and procedures are mapped out and responsibility is clear, morale is raised and stress is lowered.  Stress in the workplace commonly arises from unclear responsibilities and communication.  When the really important aspects of your business are taken care of, it then frees up staff to be inventive and express themselves in their work. This then creates a more enjoyable and vibrant workplace.
